Press Release

EM Microelectronic's EMBC01 Bluetooth Smart beacons live at CES 2015

Largest deployment of multi-protocol beacons will provide CES attendees with
indoor navigation. This unique beacon setup will include EM’s latest, lowest power and fully certified EMBC01 technology.

Marin, Switzerland - January 5th, 2015 - Today, EM Microelectronic, the ultra-low power semiconductor company of the Swatch Group and a world-leading supplier of Bluetooth® Smart products, announced that approximately 500 EMBC01 Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) proximity beacons have been installed throughout the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) exhibit halls in Las Vegas, within the largest-ever deployment of multi-protocol beacons. This unique beacon setup will support the official CES App for providing attendees with indoor navigation and enhanced mobile information services on both iOS™ and Android™ smartphones.

EMBC01 beacons are tiny, low-cost, flexible BLE beacons optimized for ultra-low power consumption and long range. EMBC01 is completely programmable and capable of supporting multiple protocols, such as iBeacon™, and AltBeacon™ as well as any other proprietary beacon protocol in a single beacon. EMBC01 is FCC/CE/IC certified and comes in a sleek, weatherproof (IP-64) housing. An integrated pushbutton and red/green LEDs maximize battery lifetime and convenience. With such features, the EMBC01 beacon is the ideal beacon device – easy to deploy right out of the box – for providing micro-location context awareness on most smartphones and enable innovative indoor navigation and context-sensitive messaging, thus enriching visitors' experience at CES 2015.

“EMBC01 was developed with flexibility, ultra-low power, value and high quality in mind from the outset. It offers versatility at low overall cost to all beacon users for paving the way to a truly pervasive Internet of Things” commented Michel Willemin, EM President. “EM is very proud to support the CES 2015 multi-protocol proximity beacon project.”

CES attendees can experience multi-protocol mobile proximity services for themselves at CES 2015, January 6-9, 2015 in Las Vegas by downloading and installing the official CES smartphone App for iOS or Android. EM will be demonstrating the power of the EMBC01 BLE Beacon, as well as many of our other innovative and low power technologies by appointment only at CES 2015 in Meeting Room MP25665, LVCC South Hall 2.
